A new species of the hermit crab genus Pagurixus Melin, 1939, P. patiae n. sp., is described from intertidal reef fl at of Iriomote Island, Yaeyama Islands of southern Ryukyu Islands, Japan. Morphological similarity suggests that the new species is allied to P. laevimanus (Ortmann, 1892) and P. anceps (Forest, 1954). However, the notably dissimilar fourth pereopods immediately distinguishes P. patiae n. sp. from P. laevimanus and P. anceps. Furthermore, characters of the cheliped, ambulatory…

RECORDS OF THE HERMIT CRAB GENUS PAGURIXUS MELIN, 1939 (DECAPODA: ANOMURA: PAGURIDAE) FROM SHALLOW CORAL REEFS IN THE PANGLAO ISLANDS, THE PHILIPPINES, WITH DESCRIPTION OF A NEW SPECIES
TLDR
Nine species of the pagurid hermit crab genus Pagurixus Melin were identified, including one new to science: P. spiniferore, new species, and all but P. haigae are recorded from the Philippines for the first time, clearly suggesting that the inventory of the shallow coral reef fauna in the area is far from satisfactory.

TLDR
A new genus of decapod crustacean fauna of shallow coral reefs and nearby environments in Okinawa Island, Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan, four specimens of a small but distinctive undescribed species of pagurid hermit crab, which could not be referred to any known genus, are collected and a new taxon is described and illustrated.
