Similarities in chromosomal puffing induced by temperature shocks and dinitrophenol in Drosophila
TLDR
The two agents are additive with respect to their effects upon puff size, supporting the idea that both result in a change in ATP synthesis within thecell, and possible relationship between these agents and puff formation and RNA metabolism is discussed. Expand
Experimental puffs in salivary gland chromosomes of Drosophila hydei
TLDR
In Drosophila hydei abnormal puffing activities could be induced by temperature shocks and treatments with 1.2% and 1.4% KCl solutions, and some puffs showed a change in activity only at a distinct stage of development. Expand
Puff activity after heat shock in two species of theDrosophila obscura group
TLDR
Differences between the induced puffing pattern of both Drosophila guanche and subobscura have been found. Expand
The influence of heat shock on the puffing pattern of Drosophila auraria polytene chromosomes
The influence of heat shock on the puffing pattern of salivary gland polytene chromosomes of D. auraria from five developmental stages was investigated. Under heat shock conditions, seven puffsExpand
Telomeric puffing induced by heat shock inChironomus thummi
TLDR
Kinetic aspects of formation of T-BRs as well as their transcriptional behaviour clearly support the view that T- BRsare components of the heat shock response in Chironomus. Expand
The Effects Of Carbon Monoxide On The Chromosomal Puffing Patterns Of The Salivary Glands Of The Drosophila melanogaster
The 110 hour larval stage puffing patterns are described for ZZ'io.iop/iZ&x meZa.nogaAteA. larvae treated with carbon monoxide. A • comparison of our findings is made with Michael Ashburner's controlExpand
Pyridoxine induced puffing (II-48 C) and synthesis of a 40 KD protein in Drosophila hydei salivary glands
TLDR
A specific heat shock puff has been induced in isolated salivary glands of D. hydei by pyridoxine (vitamin B6) and the α-amanitin sensitive synthesis of a 40 KD protein is induced. Expand
Patterns of puffing activity in the salivary gland chromosomes of Drosophila
TLDR
A similar pattern of induced puffs to that found after temperature treatment is found during recovery of larvae from anoxia, but additional puffs are “induced” after anoxion, and the size and duration of activity of the induced puffed is dependent upon the magnitude of the treatment. Expand
The puff inducible in region 93D is responsible for the synthesis of the major “heat-shock” polypeptide in Drosophila melanogaster
TLDR
Out of a cross which segregates zygotes completely lacking the inducible site of region 93D, embryos were found which show no increased synthesis of the 72,000 MW polypeptide after temperature shocks. Expand
Stress response in Drosophila subobscura
TLDR
The pattern of puffing and protein synthesis was determined in individuals of Drosophila subobscura subjected to heat shock, and the depression of gene activity after shock at 31°–34° C in individuals raised at 19° C was greater than with the other treatments. Expand

Behavior of polytene chromosomes of rhynchosciara angelae at different stages of larval development
TLDR
Polytene chromosomes in cells of salivary gland, Malpighian tubules and intestine of Rhynchosciara angelae are very favorable for study and experimental evidence suggests that a gene is located within a band, which may be morphological evidence of gene activities. Expand
