A new process for acetic acid production by direct oxidation of ethylene which was established and commercialized is described. The catalyst system consisting of Pd and heteropoly acid exhibits excellent activity and selectivity. The addition of Se or Te to the catalyst system is effective to suppress the formation of carbon dioxide. This new process is applicable to a plant of a wide range of size corresponding to the local demand. Because this new process produces little waste water, it is…

Steady State Simulation of a Novel Process for the Co-production of Vinyl Acetate and Acetic Acid

A new process for the co-production of vinyl acetate monomer and acetic acid from ethane feedstock was studied. Various configurations were proposed and simulation results were given for each case to

Review of Acetic Acid Synthesis from Various Feedstocks Through Different Catalytic Processes

Acetic acid (AA) has been largely used with a wide range of applications such as a raw material for a synthesis of vinyl acetate monomer, cellulose acetate or acetate anhydrate, acetate ester and a

Reaction path for oxidation of ethylene to acetic acid over Pd/WO3–ZrO2 in the presence of water

Pd-supported on WO3–ZrO2 (W/Zr atomic ratio=0.2) calcined at 1073 K was found to be highly active and selective for gas-phase oxidation of ethylene to acetic acid in the presence of water at 423 K

Catalytic oxidation of ethylene to acetic acid on Pd–HPA/SiO2 catalysts with different heteropoly acids

The effect of different heteropoly acids (HPA) on the catalytic properties of Pd–HPA/SiO2 in the selective oxidation of ethylene to acetic acid was investigated in this work. The results demonstrated

Bio-based green solvent for the catalyst free oxidation of arylboronic acids into phenols

A bio-based green solvent, lactic acid, is found to be an efficient reaction medium for the catalyst free oxidation of arylboronic acids into phenols with aqueous hydrogen peroxide. Various

Catalytic Chemistry of Supported Heteropolyacids and Their Applications as Solid Acids to Industrial Processes

This article reviews recent research and development of supported heteropolyacid (HPA) catalysts; focusing on the acidic and catalytic properties. First the basic knowledge of solid HPAs is provided

Selective Oxidation of Acetaldehyde to Acetic Acid on Pd–Au Bimetallic Model Catalysts

Acetic acid is a widely employed reactant in the chemical industry, and it is also used as a food ingredient. Here, we report a catalytic reaction pathway for the gas-phase selective oxidation of
