A new model predictive based Maximum Power Point Tracking method for photovoltaic applications

Abstract

This paper presents a new Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) method for Photovoltaic (PV) applications. The proposed method is based on the concept of Model Predictive Control (MPC) with unique properties. Unlike the traditional works that use MPC current or voltage control for MPPT, the proposed method treats the PV module as the plant and uses the predictions of the behavior of the PV module for tracking the Maximum Power Point (MPP). The paper provides experimental results to verify the operation of the proposed method.
