Fairbank andScully (1977) have suggested using the interaction between ultrasound and air bubbles in noninvasive manometry. In this paper, an extension of this concept is introduced, which avoids the error caused by variations in bubble volume. This is accomplished by means of a modulation of the ambient pressure, realised in practice by a low frequency ultrasound wave of known amplitude.
