This paper presents a new method for determining coherent bus group called voltage control area (VCA) based on reactive power control capabilities of that area. VCA can be used in voltage stability assessment and optimal reactive power allocation. The proposed method is based on the sensitivity of reactive power of generator to reactive power of load which is the direct relation between the production and consumption of reactive power in the system.
