Being tightly related with map projection, planar mode cannot represent meso-scale and large-scale objects spanning projection zones and spheres, because map projection causes problems of with data fissure, geometry deformation and metric inaccuracy. Though Global Discrete Grid data model can solve these problems, it is only confined to the surface, it can not reach to the inside and outside of the surface. However, Spheoid Degenerated Octree Grid (SDOG) extend the extent to the whole spheroid…
3D integrated representation model and visualization based on the global discrete voxel—GeoSOT3D
TLDR
A new global discrete voxel called GeoSOT3D, which is the abbreviation of Geographical coordinates Subdivision grid with One dimension integral coding on 2n-Tree for space, is proposed, which can seamlessly fit the global space.
RAPID VISUALIZATION OF GLOBAL IMAGE AND DEM BASED ON SDOG-ESSG
TLDR
Methods of layers and blocks data organization, as well as data culling, Level of Detail (LOD), and asynchronous scheduling, were adopted in this article to improve the efficiency of visualization of SDOG-ESSG.
An SDOG-based intrinsic method for three-dimensional modelling of large-scale spatial objects
TLDR
Spheroid Degenerated-Octree Grid (SDOG), which takes the advantages of non-shrinking, quasi-uniform, non-overlapping, latitude–longitude consistent, hexahedron-shaped, uniformly subdivided, multi-resolution, is a preferable grid for developing an intrinsic method for the 3D modelling of large-scale spatial objects.

Grid-based representation and dynamic visualization of ionospheric tomography
Abstract. The ionosphere is a dynamic system with complex structures. With the development of abundant global navigation satellite systems, the ionospheric electron density in different altitudes and
Managing the Global Dataset in Block-index based on ESSG
TLDR
The objection of this paper is to provide an effective spatial data organization and indexing method, which organizes triple units into block and encodes for each triples block and converts multi-source global scale datasets into triple block so as to manage massive raster data at global scale.

It is revealed that SDOG is a 3D grid with properties of global continuity, multi-hierarchy, similar shape and approximate size, and can serve well for global spatial data organizing and representing; SDZ andMDZ are high performance coding methods, and MDZ is a nicer choice for SDOG coding.
Implementation of an Equal-area Gridding Method for Global-scale Image Archiving
Constructing global-scale image databases is a challenging task because of large data volume and various map distortions. The raster pixel data structure on a projected flat surface has been used
Ellipsoidal quadtrees for indexing of global geographical data
TLDR
In contrast to other global indexing methods, EQT is based on the Earth ellipsoid and not a spherical approximation, which makes it possible to divide the Earth surface into a mesh of quadrangles with equal areas and can be used for indexing databases of various sizes, including national and global databases.
