In this paper, a new technique for modeling textured 3D faces is introduced. 3D faces can either be generated automatically from one or more photographs, or modeled directly through an intuitive user interface. Users are assisted in two key problems of computer aided face modeling. First, new face images or new 3D face models can be registered automatically by computing dense one-to-one correspondence to an internal face model. Second, the approach regulates the naturalness of modeled faces…
3 D Morphable Face Model , a Unified Approach for Analysis and Synthesis of Images
Morphable face models constitute a unifying framework for the analysis and synthesis of images. In the field of Computer Graphics, they are applied to synthesize photo-realistic animation of face
A morphable 3D-model of Korean faces
TLDR
This paper proposes to use implicit surfaces for this task, which enables a robust method for establishing dense 3D correspondences and shows that the model is in correspondence with the well-known MPI model, so that the face space can be expanded from Asian to Caucasian faces.
3D face model reconstruction from single 2D frontal image
TLDR
A fully automatic face modeling method that can rapidly create a realistic 3D face model on the basis of a single 2D image and the computational cost was much lower than that of other methods.
3D face modeling from single image based on discrete shape space
TLDR
The optimization process of the method is independently decoupled for different facial attributes (identity, expression, and head pose), which improves the application flexibility and reduces the probability of it falling into a local optimal situation.
Applications of 3D morphable models for faces with expressions
TLDR
It is shown in this paper that such a morphable model can be used as shape prior in many applications like denoising or occlusion recuperation tool.
Morphable Models of Faces
In this chapter, we present the Morphable Model, a three-dimensional (3D) representation that enables the accurate modeling of any illumination and pose as well as the separation of these variations
Automatic model-based face reconstruction and recognition
Three-dimensional Morphable Models (3DMM) are known to be valuable tools for both face reconstruction and face recognition. These models are particularly relevant in safety applications or Computer
3D Dense Correspondence for 3D Dense Morphable Face Shape Model
TLDR
A new 3D dense correspondence algorithm is proposed that does not need texture information and applies TPS directly on 3D face data and constructs realistic3D face morphable model reliably and fast.
Automatic 3D face reconstruction from single images or video
TLDR
This paper presents a fully automated algorithm for reconstructing a textured 3D model of a face from a single photograph or a raw video stream based on a combination of Support Vector Machines and a Morphable Model of 3D faces.
3D Face Modeling based on 3D Dense Morphable Face Shape Model
TLDR
Through building processes of 3D face model by the proposed method, it is shown that the proposed methods is relatively easy, fast and precise.

Automatic Interpretation and Coding of Face Images Using Flexible Models
TLDR
A compact parametrized model of facial appearance which takes into account all sources of variability and can be used for tasks such as image coding, person identification, 3D pose recovery, gender recognition, and expression recognition is described.
Estimating Coloured 3D Face Models from Single Images: An Example Based Approach
TLDR
A method to derive 3D shape and surface texture of a human face from a single image using a general flexible 3D face model which is “learned” from examples of individual 3D-face data (Cyberware-scans).
Making faces
TLDR
The primary emphasis of the work is not compression but the use of a novel method to compress the geometric data based on principal components analysis, which eliminates much of the variance in the image data due to motion, which increases compression ratios.
A parametric model for human faces.
TLDR
This three-dimensional, parametric model produces shaded facial images and several animated sequences that illustrate the power of the model to change facial expression and conformation.
Realistic modeling for facial animation
TLDR
This paper develops algorithms that automatically construct functional models of the heads of human subjects from laser-scanned range and reflectance data and creates the most authentic and functional facial models of individuals available to date and demonstrates their use in facial animation.
Multidimensional morphable models
TLDR
An effective stochastic gradient descent algorithm is introduced that automaticaIly matches a model to a novel image by finding the parameters that minimize the error between the image generated by the model and the novel image.
Automatic creation of 3D facial models

TLDR
A new 3D hierarchical model of the human face is developed that incorporates a physically-based approximation to facial tissue and a set of anatomically-motivated facial muscle actuators and is efficient enough to produce facial animation at interactive rates on a high-end graphics workstation.
