Pluvial flooding in urban areas is characterized by a gradually varying inundation process caused by surcharge of the sewer manholes. Therefore urban flood models need to simulate the interaction between the sewer network and the overland flow in order to accurately predict the flood inundation extents. In this work we present a methodology for linking 2D overland flow models with the storm sewer model SWMM 5. SWMM 5 is a well-known free open-source code originally developed in 1971. The latest…

Modelling Pluvial Flooding in Urban Areas Coupling the Models Iber and SWMM
Dual urban drainage models allow users to simulate pluvial urban flooding by analysing the interaction between the sewer network (minor drainage system) and the overland flow (major drainage system).
Modelling Infiltration Process, Overland Flow and Sewer System Interactions for Urban Flood Mitigation
Rainfall-runoff transformation on urban catchments involves physical processes governing runoff production in urban areas (e.g., interception, evaporation, depression, infiltration). Some previous
Linking a Storm Water Management Model to a Novel Two-Dimensional Model for Urban Pluvial Flood Modeling
This article describes a new method of urban pluvial flood modeling by coupling the 1D storm water management model (SWMM) and the 2D flood inundation model (ECNU Flood-Urban). The SWMM modeling
A Coupled 1D-2D Hydrodynamic Model for Urban Flood Inundation
Hydrodynamic models were commonly used for flood risk management in urban area. This paper presents initial efforts in developing an urban flood inundation model by coupling a one-dimensional (1D)
Effect of surcharge on gully-manhole flow
The importance of gully flow modelling to urban flood simulation
ABSTRACT Urban flood simulation often ignores or simplifies the function of underground gully systems due to data and computational limitations. To discover the influence of gullies on urban
Comparison of dynamic flow interaction methods between pipe system and overland in urban flood analysis
TLDR
A new hydrodynamic model is introduced that couples the storm water management model and the 2D overland model and finds low error and high correlation, suggesting that inundation can be effectively predicted by the new approaches.
A simplified approach for flood modeling in urban environments
TLDR
The successful coupling of SWMM and LISFLOOD-FP offers another simple, practical approach for urban flooding estimation, which can be readily used by non-expert users or those who do not have access to commercial modules.

Coupled 1D and Noninertia 2D Flood Inundation Model for Simulation of Urban Flooding
Pluvial flooding in urban areas drained by storm sewer networks is characterized by surcharge-induced inundation. Urban inundation models need to reproduce the complex interaction between the sewer
Modelling sewer discharge via displacement of manhole covers during flood events using 1D/2D SIPSON/P-DWave dual drainage simulations
In urban areas, overloaded sewers may result in surcharge that causes surface flooding. The overflow from sewer systems mainly starts at the inlets until the pressure head in the manhole is high
Overland flow and pathway analysis for modelling of urban pluvial flooding
Research on improving an overland flow model is presented for urban pluvial flooding under the dual-drainage concept where sewer flow dynamically interacts with overland flow. This occurs during

An integrated numerical model is developed in the study for simulating the runoff processes in urban areas. A 1D model is used for calculating the rainfall-runoff hydrographs and the flow conditions
SIPSON--simulation of interaction between pipe flow and surface overland flow in networks.
TLDR
The new simulation model, named SIPSON, based on the Preissmann finite difference method and the conjugate gradient method, is presented and is concluded that the presented approach is an improvement compared to the standard "virtual reservoir" approach commonly applied in most of the models.
1D and 2D Modelling of Urban Drainage Systems using XP-SWMM and TUFLOW
The release of a revised NSW Floodplain Management Manual in 2001 established a new direction for urban flood management in NSW. This new direction was created by a redefinition of the floodplain as
Hydraulic Modelling of the Two-directional Interaction between Sewer and River Systems
Sewer networks and river systems are most often studied in a separate way. However, these systems may interact in two directions. Firstly, the effluents of urban drainage systems and combined sewer
Validation of a 1D-2D dual drainage model under unsteady part-full and surcharged sewer conditions
This paper presents a 1D-2D dual drainage model to compute the rainfall-runoff transformation in urban environments. Overland flow in major drainage systems is modelled with the 2D shallow water
