A method for coupling electromagnetic transients programs with finite element magnetic field solvers

title={A method for coupling electromagnetic transients programs with finite element magnetic field solvers},
author={Enrique Melgoza and Jose Leonardo Guardado and Vicente Venegas},
A method for coupling electromagnetic transients programs and finite element field solvers is introduced. The field model takes into account the detailed structure of the magnetic device, including saturation effects, and provides a set of parameters in the form of an inductance matrix, which is then communicated to the transients program. The parameters are updated at each time step to reflect the true operating point of the device. The effect of the time delay between the computation of the…
Strong Coupling of an Electromagnetic Transients Program and a Finite Element Magnetic Field Solver Including Eddy Currents
An improved scheme for coupling electromagnetic transients programs with finite element magneto-dynamic field programs is presented. The proposed scheme uses the compensation approach to build up a
Finite Element Model of Hydro Generators Coupled to a Grid Simulation Software
This thesis aims to add a finite element model of an electrical machine, the hydro generator, to a grid solver and to use the symmetries of the studied device to reduce both the calculating time and the necessary memory.
Interfacing Techniques for Electromagnetic Field and Circuit Simulation Programs IEEE Task Force on Interfacing Techniques for Simulation Tools
Techniques for interfacing field and circuit equations of low-frequency electromagnetic apparatus are reviewed, analyzed, and classified into two main categories of direct and indirect methods according to the coupling method.
Modeling and simulation of continuously variable series reactor for power system transient analysis
The continuously variable series reactor (CVSR) is a series line reactor designed for power flow control in meshed power system networks. The CVSR is controllable using a variable dc source which
A novel method for measuring inductance of an electromagnetic actuator
In this paper the measurement of the inductance and electromagnetic force of an electromagnetic actuator is described. The paper proposes a method for the electromechanical determination of the
Sensitivity analysis for phase inductances in Flux-Switching PM machines
This paper investigates the sensitivity of phase inductances to the changes in rotor position and armature current in Flux-Switching PM machines (FSPM). FSPMs exhibit combined advantages of both
Continously variable series reactor: Impacts on distance protection using CCVTs
A continuously variable series reactor (CVSR) is a novel application of a well-known concept that provides continuous modulation of line reactance by controlling the magnetization in a ferromagnetic
Strong Coupling of Electromagnetic Transients and Finite Element Magnetic Field Solvers
Magnetic devices such as transformers and rotating electrical machines are key components of modern power systems and the simulation of transient events involving them is fundamental. In this paper,

Digital Computer Solution of Electromagnetic Transients in Single-and Multiphase Networks
Electromagnetic transients in arbitrary single- or multiphase networks are solved by a nodal admittance matrix method. The formulation is based on the method of characteristics for distributed
Improved control systems simulation in the EMTP through compensation
A technique is shown which can eliminate the time delay, without having to use a simultaneous EMTP and TACS solution.
Comparison of table models of electromagnetic actuators
A number of possibilities for constructing table-based lumped-parameter models of linear or rotary actuators are compared and the accuracy of the models is evaluated by comparing simulated results against experimental measurements taken from a prototype actuator.
