The C677T polymorphism of the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene was implicated to be associated with hypertension due to its role in catalyzing the formation of 5-methylenetetrahydrofolate, a co-substrate for the conversion of homocysteine to methionine.
