Diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI, shortened as DTI) produces, from a set of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance images, tensor-valued images where each voxel is assigned a 3×3 symmetric, positive-definite matrix. This tensor is simply the covariance matrix of a local Gaussian process with zero mean, modelling the average motion of water molecules. We propose a three-dimensional geometric flow-based model to segment the main core of cerebral white matter fibre tracts from…

Processing and visualization for diffusion tensor MRI

DTI segmentation by statistical surface evolution

It is claimed and demonstrated that, by using the theoretically well-founded differential geometrical properties of the manifold of multivariate normal distributions, it is possible to improve the quality of the segmentation results obtained with other dissimilarity measures such as the Euclidean distance or the Kullback-Leibler divergence.

White matter fiber tract segmentation in DT-MRI using geometric flows

Level set modeling and segmentation of diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging brain data

A computational pipeline starting from raw diffusion tensor data through computation of invari- ant anisotropy measures to construction of geometric models of the brain structures is developed that provides an environment for user-controlled 3-D segmentation of DT-MRI datasets.

Simultaneous smoothing and estimation of the tensor field from diffusion tensor MRI

A unified model for simultaneous smoothing and estimation of diffusion tensor field from DT-MRI, using the original Stejskal-Tanner equation instead of the linearized version as usually done in literature is presented.

This paper presents an effective region-based active contour model for tensor field segmentation and shows its application to diffusion tensor magnetic resonance images (MRI) as well as for the texture segmentation problem in computer vision.

Estimation of the effective self-diffusion tensor from the NMR spin echo.

Estimation of Deff provides the theoretical basis for a new MRI modality, diffusion tensor imaging, which provides information about tissue microstructure and its physiologic state not contained in scalar quantities such as T1, T2, proton density, or the scalar apparent diffusion constant.
