Diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI, shortened as DTI) produces, from a set of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance images, tensor-valued images where each voxel is assigned a 3×3 symmetric, positive-definite matrix. This tensor is simply the covariance matrix of a local Gaussian process with zero mean, modelling the average motion of water molecules. We propose a three-dimensional geometric flow-based model to segment the main core of cerebral white matter fibre tracts from…

HARDI Segmentation via Fourth-Order Tensors and Anisotropy Preserving Similarity Measures

In this work, we discuss the higher-order tensors appearing in high angular resolution diffusion tensor imaging, and we have tested two segmentation methods, the Riemannian spectral clustering and

Adaptive Distance Metric Learning for Diffusion Tensor Image Segmentation

TLDR
This work proposed to automatically learn an adaptive distance metric by a graph based semi-supervised learning model for DTI segmentation to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed distance metric learning approach.

Direct White Matter Bundle Segmentation using Stacked U-Nets

TLDR
This work presents a novel supervised approach for direct tract segmentation that shows major performance gains and shows how the learned spatial priors efficiently guide the segmentation even at lower image qualities with little quality loss.

Intraoperative Real-Time Querying of White Matter Tracts During Frameless Stereotactic Neuronavigation

TLDR
Interactive tractography can provide an intuitive way to inspect critical WM tracts in the vicinity of the surgical region, allowing the surgeon to have increased intraoperative WM information to execute the planned surgical resection.

Active Contour Models for Manifold Valued Image Segmentation

TLDR
This paper generalizes the active contour model to work on Manifold-valued images, and performs texture segmentation on gray-scale images by first creating an appropriate Manifolding-valued image.

Processing and visualization for diffusion tensor MRI

DTI segmentation by statistical surface evolution

TLDR
It is claimed and demonstrated that, by using the theoretically well-founded differential geometrical properties of the manifold of multivariate normal distributions, it is possible to improve the quality of the segmentation results obtained with other dissimilarity measures such as the Euclidean distance or the Kullback-Leibler divergence.

White matter fiber tract segmentation in DT-MRI using geometric flows

Level set modeling and segmentation of diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging brain data

TLDR
A computational pipeline starting from raw diffusion tensor data through computation of invari- ant anisotropy measures to construction of geometric models of the brain structures is developed that provides an environment for user-controlled 3-D segmentation of DT-MRI datasets.

Simultaneous smoothing and estimation of the tensor field from diffusion tensor MRI

TLDR
A unified model for simultaneous smoothing and estimation of diffusion tensor field from DT-MRI, using the original Stejskal-Tanner equation instead of the linearized version as usually done in literature is presented.

Diffusion tensor magnetic resonance image regularization

Level Set and Region Based Surface Propagation for Diffusion Tensor MRI Segmentation

TLDR
This work proposes to extend classical segmentation techniques based on surface evolution by considering region statistics defined on the full diffusion tensor field itself by using a multivariate Gaussian to approximate the density of the components of diffusion Tensor for each sub-region of the volume.

In vivo fiber tractography using DT‐MRI data

TLDR
Fiber tract trajectories in coherently organized brain white matter pathways were computed from in vivo diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT‐MRI) data, and the method holds promise for elucidating architectural features in other fibrous tissues and ordered media.

Tensor Field Segmentation Using Region Based Active Contour Model

TLDR
This paper presents an effective region-based active contour model for tensor field segmentation and shows its application to diffusion tensor magnetic resonance images (MRI) as well as for the texture segmentation problem in computer vision.

Estimation of the effective self-diffusion tensor from the NMR spin echo.

TLDR
Estimation of Deff provides the theoretical basis for a new MRI modality, diffusion tensor imaging, which provides information about tissue microstructure and its physiologic state not contained in scalar quantities such as T1, T2, proton density, or the scalar apparent diffusion constant.
