Cytochrome P4501A1 and its associated aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase activity are highly inducible in the mouse hepatoma cell line, Hepa-1, by substrates of the enzyme and related compounds, such as 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). Mutants of this cell line, deficient in P4501A1 inducibility, were isolated. Some of the mutants show a dominant phenotype.
