Energy conserving design is the research focus to prolong the lifetime of sensor networks. A simple and effective way to save energy is to place nodes in sleep mode, however, sleep mode corresponds to low power consumption as well as to reduced operation capacity and increased latency. We derive a queuing model for the sensor node and performance models for the whole sensor network.
