Tree congruence: quantifying similarity between dendrogram topologies

TLDR
The results support the use of the CRI and MASTxCF as part of a suite of metrics, but it is recommended that permutation metrics such as SPR distances and weighted metrics are disregarded for the specific purpose of measuring similarity.

The Earliest Pterodactyloid and the Origin of the Group

PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF A PHYLOGENETIC ANALYSIS OF THE PTEROSAURS FROM WESTERN LIAONING AND SURROUNDING AREAS

TLDR
Preliminary results show that Liaoning pterosaurs belong to Anurognathidae, but the clade formed by Boreopterus and Feilongus is basal to other ornithocheirids, and three Chinese tapejarids form a monophyletic group.

On the phylogeny and evolutionary history of pterosaurs

TLDR
The pattern of pterosaur evolution suggested by the results of this analysis is broadly similar to traditional ideas, but has greater resolution, more complexity and reveals several previously unrecognized ‘events’.

Longicepia Miller (1972) Preoccupied by Pteranodon Marsh

TLDR
The species should be properly referred to as Pteranodowt (Ptew^nodon) longiceps Marsh, and the subgenus also includes one other known species, PterAnodon (Pteranodon) mhi Miller.

The phylogenetic position of the Pterosauria within the Archosauromorpha re-examined

TLDR
The data set was updated with additional characters and taxa from recent analyses, tested as before, and when analysed suggested that the Pterosauria were basal archosauriforms well outside the crown group Archosaurusia.

On Zhejiangopterus and the relationships of pterodactyloid pterosaurs

TLDR
It is proposed that Zhejiangopterus be reassigned to the Azhdarchidae, a new, long‐necked, Late Cretaceous pterosaur from China that has been assigned to the Nyctosauridae.

DEALING WITH INCOMPLETENESS: NEW ADVANCES FOR THE USE OF FOSSILS IN PHYLOGENETIC ANALYSIS

TLDR
The major reason for the importance of fossils in phylogenetic reconstruction is that they can bear unique combinations of characters, which are absent in extant taxa, and these can be critical to test the interrelationships of all analyzed species.

Congruence Between Morphological and Allozyme Data in Evolutionary Inference and Character Evolution

TLDR
Cladistical rather than phenetic methods are required for the analysis of character evolution, and the ease of obtaining sufficient information, rather than presumed inherent differences between characters, should determine which characters are used for evolutionary taxonomic inference.

Pterosaur phylogeny and comments on the evolutionary history of the group

TLDR
This study suggests that the most primitive taxon is the Anurognathidae, followed by Sordes and all remaining pterosaurs, and the hypothesis of rhamphorhynchoid paraphyly is confirmed, with the RhamphorHynchidae more closely related to the Pterodactyloidea than to more basal forms.
