A democratic Cosmos
@article{Yargi2019ADC, title={A democratic Cosmos}, author={Yĭgit Yargiç and Guilherme Franzmann}, journal={arXiv: History and Philosophy of Physics}, year={2019} }
Despite the success of our best models in Theoretical Physics, especially concerning Cosmology and Particle Physics, we still face persistent challenges. Among them we have the cosmological singularity problem, understanding the late-time acceleration of the Universe, and comprehending the fundamental nature of time. We believe relevant new insights to tackle each of these issues may be found in the Philosophy of Cosmology. We elaborate on three philosophical principles that shall guide us on…

The case for background independence
- Philosophy, Physics
- 2005
The aim of this paper is to explain carefully the arguments behind the assertion that the correct quantum theory of gravity must be background independent. We begin by recounting how the debate…
Cosmological signatures of time-asymmetric gravity
- Physics
- 2016
We develop the model proposed by Cort\^es, Gomes & Smolin, to predict cosmological signatures of time-asymmetric extensions of general relativity they proposed recently. Within this class of models…
New perspective on cosmic coincidence problems
- PhysicsPhysical review letters
- 2000
This work introduces a framework which makes the triple coincidence inevitable, and presents a simple model, where a false vacuum energy yields a cosmological constant of this form.
MOND as a regime of quantum gravity
- Physics
- 2017
We propose that there is a regime of quantum gravity phenomena, for the case that the cosmological constant is small and positive, which concerns phenomena at temperatures below the deSitter…
Emergent Gravity and the Dark Universe
- Physics
- 2016
Recent theoretical progress indicates that spacetime and gravity emerge together from the entanglement structure of an underlying microscopic theory. These ideas are best understood in Anti-de Sitter…
Inflationary universe: A possible solution to the horizon and flatness problems
- Physics
- 1981
The standard model of hot big-bang cosmology requires initial conditions which are problematic in two ways: (1) The early universe is assumed to be highly homogeneous, in spite of the fact that…
The Anthropic Landscape of String Theory
- Physics
- 2003
In this lecture I make some educated guesses, about the landscape of string theory vacua. Based on the recent work of a number of authors, it seems plausible that the lanscape is unimaginably large…
Beyond Standard Inflationary Cosmology
- PhysicsBeyond Spacetime
- 2020
The inflationary scenario is not the only paradigm of early universe cosmology which is consistent with current observations. General criteria will be presented which any successful early universe…
