We present a novel deep learning model, intelligent quasar continuum neural network (iQNet), which predicts the intrinsic continuum of any quasar in the rest-frame wavelength range 1020 Angstroms $\leq \lambda \leq$ 1600 Angstroms. We train this network using quasar spectra at low redshift ($z \sim 0.2$) from the Hubble Spectroscopic Legacy Archive, and apply it to predict quasar continua from different astronomical surveys. We introduce a standardization process to the data, reducing the…
A comparison of quasar emission reconstruction techniques for z ≥ 5.0 Lyman α and Lyman β transmission
Reconstruction techniques for intrinsic quasar continua are crucial for the precision study of Lyman-$\alpha$ (Ly-$\alpha$) and Lyman-$\beta$ (Ly-$\beta$) transmission at $z>5.0$, where the $\lambda
An Unsupervised Learning Approach for Quasar Continuum Prediction
This work introduces a novel unsupervised learning algorithm, Quasar Factor Analysis (QFA), for recovering the intrinsic quasar continua from noisy quasar spectra, which achieves state-of-the-art performance for quasar continuum prediction robustly but without the need for predefined training continua.

The Million Quasars (Milliquas) Catalogue, v6.4.
Announcing the release v6.4 of the Milliquas (Million Quasars) quasar catalogue which presents all published quasars to 11 December 2019, including SDSS-DR16. Its totals are 757,991 type-I QSOs/AGN
The 16th Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys: First Release from the APOGEE-2 Southern Survey and Full Release of eBOSS Spectra
This paper documents the 16th data release (DR16) from the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys (SDSS), the fourth and penultimate from the fourth phase (SDSS-IV). This is the first release of data from the
Adam: A Method for Stochastic Optimization
This work introduces Adam, an algorithm for first-order gradient-based optimization of stochastic objective functions, based on adaptive estimates of lower-order moments, and provides a regret bound on the convergence rate that is comparable to the best known results under the online convex optimization framework.
The UV background photoionization rate at 2.3 < z < 4.6 as measured from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
(Abridged) We present the results from the largest investigation to date of the proximity effect in the HI Lyalpha forest, using the fifth SDSS data release. The sample consists of 1733 QSOs at
A refined measurement of the mean transmitted flux in the Lyα forest over 2 < z < 5 using composite quasar spectra
We present new measurements of the mean transmitted flux in the Lyα forest over 2 < z < 5 made using 6065 quasar spectra from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey data release 7 (SDSS DR7). We exploit the
A principal component analysis of quasar UV spectra at z ~ 3
From a principal component analysis (PCA) of 78 z ∼ 3 high-quality quasar spectra in the SDSS-DR7 we derive the principal components that characterize the QSO continuum over the full available
The H I opacity of the intergalactic medium at redshifts 1.6 < z < 3.2
We use high-quality echelle spectra of 24 quasi-stellar objects to provide a calibrated measurement of the total amount of Lyα forest absorption (DA) over the redshift range 2.2 < z < 3.2. Our
Estimating the Dimension of a Model
We measure the distribution of carbon in the intergalactic medium as a function of redshift z and overdensity δ. Using a hydrodynamical simulation to link the H I absorption to the density and
Nine-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) Observations: Cosmological Parameter Results
We present cosmological parameter constraints based on the final nine-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data, in conjunction with a number of additional cosmological data sets. The
