We present a novel deep learning model, intelligent quasar continuum neural network (iQNet), which predicts the intrinsic continuum of any quasar in the rest-frame wavelength range 1020 Angstroms $\leq \lambda \leq$ 1600 Angstroms. We train this network using quasar spectra at low redshift ($z \sim 0.2$) from the Hubble Spectroscopic Legacy Archive, and apply it to predict quasar continua from different astronomical surveys. We introduce a standardization process to the data, reducing the…

A comparison of quasar emission reconstruction techniques for z ≥ 5.0 Lyman α and Lyman β transmission
- Physics
- 2020
Reconstruction techniques for intrinsic quasar continua are crucial for the precision study of Lyman-$\alpha$ (Ly-$\alpha$) and Lyman-$\beta$ (Ly-$\beta$) transmission at $z>5.0$, where the $\lambda…
An Unsupervised Learning Approach for Quasar Continuum Prediction
- Physics, Computer Science
- 2022
This work introduces a novel unsupervised learning algorithm, Quasar Factor Analysis (QFA), for recovering the intrinsic quasar continua from noisy quasar spectra, which achieves state-of-the-art performance for quasar continuum prediction robustly but without the need for predefined training continua.

Adam: A Method for Stochastic Optimization
- Computer ScienceICLR
- 2015
This work introduces Adam, an algorithm for first-order gradient-based optimization of stochastic objective functions, based on adaptive estimates of lower-order moments, and provides a regret bound on the convergence rate that is comparable to the best known results under the online convex optimization framework.
