We use a Chandra observation of the poor cluster AWM 4 to map the temperature and abundance of the intracluster medium, so as to examine the influence of the central radio galaxy on its environment. While the cluster core is generally enriched to near-solar abundances, we find evidence of supersolar abundances correlated with the radio jets, extending ∼35 kpc from the core of the central dominant galaxy NGC 6051 along its minor-axis. We conclude that the enriched gas has been transported out of…

The mystery of the 'Kite' radio source in Abell 2626: insights from new Chandra observations

We present the results of a new Chandra study of the galaxy cluster A2626. The radio emission of the cluster shows a complex system of four symmetric arcs without known correlations with the X-ray

Radio emission at the centre of the galaxy cluster Abell 3560: evidence for core sloshing?

Previous radio observations of the galaxy cluster A3560 in the Shapley Concentration showed complex radio emission associated with the brightest cluster member. To understand its origin we observed it

A Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope/Chandra view of IRAS 09104+4109: A type 2 QSO in a cooling flow

IRAS 09104+4109 is a rare example of a dust enshrouded type 2 QSO in the centre of a cool‐core galaxy cluster. Previous observations of this z=0.44 system showed that as well as powering the

The impact of sloshing on the intragroup medium and old radio lobe of NGC 5044

We present temperature and abundance maps of the central 125 kpc of the NGC 5044 galaxy group, based an a deep XMM-Newton observation. The abundance map reveals an asymmetrical abundance structure,

ANISOTROPIC METAL-ENRICHED OUTFLOWS DRIVEN BY ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI IN CLUSTERS OF GALAXIES

We present an analysis of the spatial distribution of metal-rich gas in 10 galaxy clusters using deep observations from the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) have

Radio and X-ray Observations of the Restarted Radio Galaxy in the Galaxy Cluster CL0838+1948

We present VLA Low-band Ionosphere and Transient Experiment (VLITE) 338 MHz observations of the galaxy cluster CL 0838+1948. We combine the VLITE data with Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope 610 MHz

Evidence for AGN Feedback in Galaxy Clusters and Groups

The current generation of flagship X-ray missions, Chandra and XMM-Newton, has changed our understanding of the so-called “cool-core” galaxy clusters and groups. Instead of the initial idea that the

A detailed study of X-ray cavities in the intracluster environment of the cool core cluster Abell 3017

We present a detailed analysis of a cool-core galaxy cluster Abell 3017, at a redshift of z = 0.219, which has been identified to be merging with its companion cluster Abell 3016. This study has made

Evidence of AGN feedback and sloshing in the X-ray luminous NGC 1550 galaxy group

We present results from Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope and Chandra observations of the NGC 1550 galaxy group. Although previously thought of as relaxed, we show evidence that gas sloshing and

The origin of the X-ray, radio and H I structures in the NGC 5903 galaxy group

The NGC 5903 galaxy group is a nearby (~30 Mpc) system of ~30 members, dominated by the giant ellipticals NGC 5903 and NGC 5898. The group contains two unusual structures, a ~110 kpc long HI filament
