  • Abstract The milky secretion produced by the skin tubercle glands of the stonefish inhibits mussel gill ciliary movement, is lethal to the ciliate protozoan Blepharisma sp. at a concentration of 1/750 by volume and kills the prawn Metapenaeus bennettae when administered intramuscularly at 5 μl/g. It has negligible protease, haemolytic and haemagglutinating activity and is only mildly toxic to mosquito fishes and blennies immersed in it.
