In this paper, a methodology for modelling two-phase flows based on a conservative level set method in the framework of finite volume method is presented. The novelty of the interface capturing method used here lies on the advection of level set which is solved with a WENO scheme and is corrected with a novel re-initialisation method for retaining its signed distance function character. The coupling with the volume of fluid method is done with a simple algebraic approach and with the new…

A new coupled level set and volume-of-fluid method to capture free surface on an overset grid system
The new coupled level set and volume-of-fluid (CLSVOF) method accurately captures interface and greatly preserves mass on an overset grid system by demonstrating the 3D sphere advection test.
An embedded level set method for sharp-interface multiphase simulations of Diesel injectors
Abstract We propose a comprehensive approach for treating complex wall boundaries in two-phase, free-surface flow simulations on a Cartesian adaptive grid. The external gas–liquid interface is
A coupled level set and volume-of-fluid method for sharp interface simulation of plunging breaking waves
Abstract A coupled level set and volume-of-fluid (CLSVOF) method is implemented for the numerical simulations of interfacial flows in ship hydrodynamics. The interface is reconstructed via a
A Coupled Level Set-Moment of Fluid Method for Incompressible Two-Phase Flows
The algorithm of Raessi and Pitsch is modified from a staggered grid method to a collocated grid method and their treatment for the nonlinear terms with the variable density, collocated, pressure projection algorithm developed by Kwatra et al.
A Coupled Level Set and Volume-of-Fluid Method for Computing 3D and Axisymmetric Incompressible Two-Phase Flows
We present a coupled level set/volume-of-fluid (CLSVOF) method for computing 3D and axisymmetric incompressible two-phase flows. This method combines some of the advantages of the volume-of-fluid
Simulation of liquid composite moulding using a finite volume scheme and the level-set method
Abstract In this paper, a 2D numerical framework for the simulation of flows in porous media that are characterised by a sharp transition between the saturated and unsaturated zone is presented.
A dual grid level set method based study of interface-dynamics for a liquid jet injected upwards into another liquid
Abstract Dynamics and breakup of an axi-symmetric liquid jet injected upwards into another stationary or co-flowing immiscible liquid is investigated numerically. Simulations are done using an
A coupled level set and volume of fluid method with a re-initialisation step suitable for unstructured meshes
This coupled method provides better accuracy than the volume of fluid method alone and is capable of capturing sharp interfaces in all the classical numerical tests that are presented here.
Numerical simulation of subcooled and superheated jets under thermodynamic non-equilibrium
Abstract Modelling and simulating the rapid pressure drop inside nozzles is a significant challenge because of the complexity of the multiple associated phenomena. In the present study, FlashFOAM a
Algebraic coupled level set-volume of fluid method for surface tension dominant two-phase flows
Abstract In this study, an Algebraic Coupled Level Set-Volume of Fluid (A-CLSVOF) method is proposed for the simulation of interfacial capillary flows. The Volume of Fluid (VOF) method is utilized to
