Oil palm (Elaeis guinensis Jacquin) is the most important source of vegetable oil and fat. Several linkage maps had been constructed using dominant and co-dominant markers to facilitate mapping of QTL. However, dominant markers are not easily transferable among different laboratories. We constructed a consensus linkage map for oil palm using co-dominant markers (i.e. microsatellite and SNPs) and two F1 breeding populations generated by crossing Dura and Pisifera individuals. Four hundreds and…

Genome-wide identification of markers for selecting higher oil content in oil palm

TLDR
Pyramiding the identified QTL with beneficial genotypes associated with oil content traits using DNA markers has the potential to accelerate genetic improvement for oil yield in the breeding population of oil palm.

Genome Mapping to Enhance Efficient Marker-Assisted Selection and Breeding of the Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.)

TLDR
The general conclusion is that genome mapping is pivotal in the construction of a genetic linkage map that helps to detect QTL and identify genes that control quantitative traits in oil palm.

Linkage-based genome assembly improvement of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis)

TLDR
This study improves the current physical genome of the commercial oil palm, and provides important insights into its recombination landscape, eventually unlocking the full potential genome sequence-enabled biology for oil palm.

Developing genome-wide SNPs and constructing an ultrahigh-density linkage map in oil palm

TLDR
A large number of SNPs will supply ample choices of DNA markers in analysing the genetic diversity, population structure and evolution of oil palm, and will contribute to mapping quantitative trait loci (QTL) for important traits, thus accelerating oil palm genetic improvement.

TLDR
The linkage map and mapped QTLs for shell nacre colour would be useful for improving the quality of Hyriopsis cumingii via marker-assisted selection.

REVEALING QTLs ASSOCIATED WITH FATTY ACID COMPOSITION AND COMPACTNESS ON AN INTEGRATED LINKAGE MAP OF OIL PALM INTERSPECIFIC BACKCROSS 2 (BC2)

Genome-wide association study (GWAS) for stem height increment in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) germplasm using SNP markers

Oil palm germplasms belonging to four African countries were used in GWAS for stem height increment. Till now, there has been no report available on GWAS study of African oil palm germplasm using

Genome properties of key oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) breeding populations

TLDR
The present study considered two complex breeding populations, Deli and La Mé, with 943 individuals and 7324 single-nucleotide polymorphisms from genotyping-by-sequencing, and found that the two populations had low Ne, and population-specific genetic maps and reference genomes are recommended for future studies.

Quantitative trait loci for yield components in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.)

TLDR
The ultimate objective of mapping QTLs in commercial populations is to utilise novel breeding strategies such as marker-assisted selection (MAS), and the potential impact of MAS in oil palm breeding programmes is discussed.

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) linkage map, and quantitative trait locus analysis for sex ratio and related traits

TLDR
Quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis identified eight QTLs across six linkage groups associated with sex ratio and related traits, and two new SSRs were shown to flank the major Sh locus controlling the fruit variety type in oil palm.

Genetic Linkage Map of a High Yielding FELDA Deli×Yangambi Oil Palm Cross

TLDR
This work constructed the linkage map of a FELDA high yielding oil palm (Elaeis guineensis), hybrid cross, which out-yielded the average by 8–21% in four trials all of which yielded comparably to the best current commercial planting materials.

Microsatellite-based high density linkage map in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.).

TLDR
This linkage map is the first in oil palm to have 16 independent linkage groups corresponding to the plant’s 16 homologous chromosome pairs and represents an important step towards quantitative trait loci analysis and physical mapping in the E. guineensis species.

Identification of QTLs Associated with Callogenesis and Embryogenesis in Oil Palm Using Genetic Linkage Maps Improved with SSR Markers

TLDR
This study is the first attempt to identify QTL associated with tissue culture amenity in oil palm which is an important step towards understanding the molecular processes underlying clonal regeneration of oil palm.

Mapping of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for oil yield using SSRs and gene-based markers in African oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.)

TLDR
To estimate the position and effects of QTLs linked to oil yield traits in African oil palm, co-dominant microsatellites (SSR) and candidate gene-based sequence polymorphisms were applied to construct a linkage map for a progeny showing large differences in oil yield components.

Construction of a RFLP genetic linkage map for oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.).

TLDR
High level of linkage between markers (95%) suggests good genome coverage and very little segregation distortion of markers was observed, and two important markers were shown to generate allelic variants following PCR amplification and restriction digestion of PCR products.

RAPD linkage mapping of the shell thickness locus in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.)

TLDR
The results demonstrate the usefulness of RAPD markers and the pseudo-testcross mapping strategy for developing genetic linkage information, and constitute an important step towards early marker-assisted selection for shell thickness in oil palm.

An approach for jatropha improvement using pleiotropic QTLs regulating plant growth and seed yield

TLDR
This study is the first report on genetic analysis of growth and seed traits with molecular markers in jatropha, a promising biofuel crop, and an approach using pleiotropic QTLs, which will be likely to lead to initiation of molecular breeding inJatropha by integrating more markers in the QTL regions.
