A novel, conformationally preorganized nonnucleosidic universal solid support for oligonucleotide synthesis was developed. The solid support featured two chemically equivalent hydroxy groups locked in syn-periplanar orientation and orthogonally protected with 4,4'-dimethoxytrityl and acetyl groups.
