Caecal amoebiasis models (mouse, hamster and rat) were compared for amoebic infection and chemotherapeutic evaluation using a pathogenic strain of Entamoeba histolytica of human origin. Caecal infection in the hamster was of the acute type, with a large number of amoebae in the caecal tissue, whereas the amoebae in rats were seen in the lumen, on the mucosal surface. Amoebic lesions in the mouse caecum were of moderate severity. The mouse model responded to both metronidazole (tissue amoebicide… Expand
Caecal-inoculation of entamoeba histolytica in the immunodepressed swiss albino mice treated with Cyclophosphamide
TLDR
The culture results of the stool of the mice which were inoculated with the inoculum of E. histolytica were found to be positive on the first 10 days after post caecal inoculation, and the antiamoebic antibody levels of all animals were also found negative. Expand
The efficacy of some drugs with known antiprotozoal activity against Histomonas meleagridis in chickens.
TLDR
The only new entities with efficacy against blackhead disease in vivo were nitroimidazoles, related to the positive control dimetridazole, which suppressed growth of H. meleagridis in vitro and in vivo. Expand
Effects of Piper longum fruit, Piper sarmentosum root and Quercus infectoria nut gall on caecal amoebiasis in mice.
TLDR
The severity of caecal wall ulceration was reduced in mice which received the extract and metronidazole as compared to the control animals. Expand
Phyllanthus piscatorum, ethnopharmacological studies on a women's medicinal plant of the Yanomamï Amerindians.
TLDR
Although in several communities along the upper Orinoco the cultivation and use of Phyllanthus piscatorum is being lost because of the ongoing acculturation, the traditional medicinal use might provide an effective and cheap remedy against dermatological diseases linked with Candida albicans infections. Effects of Crude Root Extracts of Senna Didymobotrya on Caecal Amoebiasis in Mice
Anti-amoebic effects of crude root extracts of Senna didymobotrya against Entamoeba histolytica infecting caecum of mice were studied. Caecal amoebiasis was induced by injection of EntamoebaExpand

Activity of a new oxadiazole compound, against experimental infections with Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia in animal models.
TLDR
BTI 2286E is more potent than metronidazole in extra intestinal, intra luminal amoebiasis models and has significant advantages in that it is non-mutagenic in the Ames test and has a shorter duration of effective treatment. Expand
The presence of Endamoeba histolytica in the liver of guinea pigs with experimental intestinal amebiasis.
TLDR
The data are too meager to indicate a relationship between the severity of the intestinal lesions and the occurrence of the parasite in the liver, but in a series of cases not tabulated here, there was no parasitism of the liver when the intestinal infection was detectable only by finding parasites within the lumen without demonstrable lesions in the wall. TLDR
2 strains of Entamoeba histolytica were administered intra-intestinally to 15 inbred and 3 outbred strains of mouse and both zymodemes were found to be capable of infecting all 18 strains of mice for varying periods of time and both were capable of invading the gut mucosa in genetically susceptible strains. TLDR
The experimental infections of rats with various strains of E.V. histolytica showed that the virulence varies considerably, strains isolated from acute relapsing cases are all virulent to rats, but those from contact carriers may be avirulent or virulent. Expand
