We design a compact, all-optical THz wave generator based on self-modulation in a 1-D slab photonic crystal (PhC) waveguide with a single sub-nanometer graphene layer by using enhanced nonlinearity of graphene. It has been shown that at the bandgap edge of higher bands of a 1-D slab PhC, through only one sub-nanometer graphene layer we can obtain a compact, high modulation factor (about 0.98 percent), self-intensity modulator at a high frequency (about 0.6 THz) and low threshold intensity…

TLDR
Tunable frequency conversion can be achieved by controlling the phase-matched coupling and frequency conversion of terahertz waves, assisted by the permittivity modulation induced by the co-propagating waves.
Ultrasensitive tunable terahertz sensor based on five-band perfect absorber with Dirac semimetal.
TLDR
This work proposes an easily implemented THz sensor based on bulk Dirac semimetal (BDS), which not only achieves narrowband absorption and dynamic tunability at five perfect absorption bands, but also exhibits excellent sensing performance.
Fano resonant Ge2Sb2Te5 nanoparticles realize switchable lateral optical force.
TLDR
For the very first time, it is demonstrated that the Fano resonances of the Ge2Sb2Te5 phase-change nanoparticles encapsulated with Au shells could enable a conventional Gaussian laser to exert a lateral force on such a dielectric GST nanoparticle, attributed to the strongly asymmetric energy flow around the sphere in the dipole-quadrupole FRs.
Tuning the bandgap of graphene quantum dots by gold nanoparticle-assisted O2 plasma etching
In this article, we report a feasible etching method to tune the bandgap of graphene quantum dots (GQDs). Since the bandgap in fluorescent carbon materials is dependent on the GQDs’ size and chemical

Terahertz semiconductor-heterostructure laser
TLDR
A monolithic terahertz injection laser that is based on interminiband transitions in the conduction band of a semiconductor (GaAs/AlGaAs) heterostructure is reported, which is very promising for extending the present laser concept to continuous-wave and high-temperature operation, which would lead to implementation in practical photonic systems.
Continuous-wave operation of terahertz quantum-cascade lasers above liquid-nitrogen temperature
