Nitric oxide (nitrogen monoxide, NO) plays a veritable cornucopia of regulatory roles in normal physiology. In contrast, NO has also been implicated in the etiology and sequela of numerous neurodegenerative diseases that involve reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitrogen oxide species (RNOS).
