A universal method allowing simultaneous extraction and analysis of diverse ultraviolet-B-absorbing compounds belonging to mycosporines and mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) is presented. Mycosporines and MAAs are found both in prokaryotes and eukaryotes and possess photoprotective properties.
