Magnetic impurities in s-wave superconductors lead to spin-polarized Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) in-gap states. Chains of magnetic impurities offer one of the most viable routes for the realization of Majorana bound states which hold a promise for topological quantum computing. However, this ambitious goal looks distant since no quantum coherent degrees of freedom have yet been identified in these systems. To fill this gap we propose an effective two-level system, a YSR qubit, stemming from two… Expand

Long range and highly tunable interaction between local spins coupled to a superconducting condensate.
TLDR
This work addresses the problem demonstrating the possibility of tuning the interaction between local spins coupled through a superconducting condensate with atomic scale precision, and reveals the existence of highly anisotropic interactions, lasting up to very long distances. Expand

The local magnetic moment of an interacting quantum dot occupied by a single electron can be screened by binding a Bogoliubov quasiparticle from a nearby superconductor. This gives rise to aExpand
