The goal of this note is to show that a widespread claim about Benford's Law, namely, that the range of every Benford distribution spans at least several orders of magnitude, is false. The proof is constructive and concrete examples are presented.

Analyzing Benford’s Law’s Powerful Applications in Image Forensics

Using the image’s luminance channel and JPEG coefficients, the proposed idea is applicable to any procedure that involves the analysis of digital images and in which it is strongly suggested that the image authenticity be verified prior to beginning the analyzing process.

Fundamental Flaws in Feller's Classical Derivation of Benford's Law

Feller's classic text 'An Introduction to Probability Theory and its Applications' contains a derivation of the well known significant-digit law called Benford's law. More specifically, Feller gives

Emphasizing common challenges and techniques across the disciplines, this accessible book shows how Benford’s law can serve as a productive meeting ground for researchers and practitioners in diverse fields.

The mathematics of Benford’s law: a primer

This article provides a concise overview of the main mathematical theory of Benford’s law in a form accessible to scientists and students who have had first courses in calculus and probability. In

Benford's Law

It is shown that a number of different statistics associated with computation like space and runtime often follow Benford's Law, and that search cost on input data that follows Benford’s Law is often very different to that on more uniform data.

Benford’s Law Strikes Back: No Simple Explanation in Sight for Mathematical Gem

The claim by Feller and subsequent authors that ‘‘regularity and large spread implies Benford’s Law’’ is fallacious for any reasonable definitions of regularity and spread (measure of dispersion).
