A Weyl geometric scalar field approach to the dark sector

title={A Weyl geometric scalar field approach to the dark sector},
  author={Erhard Scholz},
This paper explores the dark sector (dark matter and dark energy) from the perspective of Weyl geometric scalar tensor theory (integrable Weyl geometry). In order to account for the galactic dynamics success-fully modelled by MOND (“modified Newtonian dynamics”), the non-minimally coupled scalar field considered here has a Lagrangian with two non-conventional contributions in addition to a standard kinetic term: one is inspired by Bekenstein/Milgrom’s RAQUAL (“relativistic a-quadratic Lagrangian…

Dark energy from a geometrical gauge scalar-tensor theory of gravity

In this paper we obtain some cosmological solutions that describe the present period of accelerating expansion of the Universe in the framework of a geometrical gauge scalar-tensor theory of gravity.

A scalar field model for explaining the anomalous acceleration and light deflection at galactic and cluster scales, without further dark matter, is presented. It is formulated in a scale covariant

Paving the way for transitions --- a case for Weyl geometry

This paper presents three aspects by which the Weyl geometric generalization of Riemannian geometry, and of Einstein gravity, sheds light on actual questions of physics and its philosophical

Modified Gravity Without Dark Matter

On an empirical level, the most successful alternative to dark matter in bound gravitational systems is the modified Newtonian dynamics, or MOND, proposed by Milgrom. Here I discuss the attempts to

Cosmological models in Weyl geometrical scalar-tensor theory

We investigate cosmological models in a recently proposed geometrical theory of gravity, in which the scalar field appears as part of the spacetime geometry. We extend the previous theory to include

Geodesically Complete Analytic Solutions for a Cyclic Universe

We present analytic solutions to a class of cosmological models described by a canonical scalar field minimally coupled to gravity and experiencing self interactions through a hyperbolic potential.

Local conformal symmetry in physics and cosmology

We show how to lift a generic non-scale invariant action in Einstein frame into a locally conformally-invariant (or Weyl-invariant) theory and present a new general form for Lagrangians consistent

Geometry of modified Newtonian dynamics

Modified Newtonian Dynamics is an empirical modification to Poisson's equation which has had success in accounting for the `gravitational field' $\Phi$ in a variety of astrophysical systems. The

A general class of gravitational theories as alternatives to dark matter where the speed of gravity always equals the speed of light.

A number of theories of gravity have been proposed as proxies for dark matter in the regime of galaxies and cosmology. The recent observations of gravitational waves (GW170817) from the merger of two

Phenomenology of self-interacting dark matter in a matter-dominated universe

We study production of self-interacting dark matter (DM) during an early matter-dominated phase. As a benchmark scenario, we consider a model where the DM consists of singlet scalar particles coupled
