6 Large eddy simulation (LES) methods are inapplicable to many relevant high Reynolds number turbulent flow sim7 ulations because of their huge computational cost. The combination of LES with Reynolds-averaged Navier Stokes 8 (RANS) methods represents a promising approach to deal with the cost problem of LES.
