Synchronization flaws due to race conditions, in which the binding of a name to an object changes between repeated references, occur in many programs. A malicious program acts by exploiting a window of opportunity between the points of execution of another program. Such vulnerabilities can be exploited to gain unauthorized access to resources of a system. We propose a unified approach to detect and analyze these flaws in the Unix file system.
