Ambulance chasing is a common socio-scientific phenomenon in particle physics. I argue that despite the seeming complexity, it is possible to gain insight into both the qualitative and quantitative features of ambulance chasing dynamics. Compound-Poisson statistics suffices to accommodate the time evolution of the cumulative number of papers on a topic, where basic assumptions that the interest in the topic as well as the number of available ideas decrease with time appear to drive the time…

Characterising the 750 GeV diphoton excess
A bstractWe study kinematic distributions that may help characterise the recently observed excess in diphoton events at 750 GeV at the LHC Run 2. Several scenarios are considered, including spin-0
Aspects of astrophysical particle production and beyond the Standard Model phenomenology
This PhD thesis deals with various aspects of (astro)particle physics phenomenology and consists out of two parts: beyond the Standard Model physics and neutrino astronomy. In the first part, I focus
750 GeV diphotons from supersymmetry with Dirac gauginos
Motivated by the recent excess in the diphoton invariant mass near 750 GeV, we explore a supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model that includes the minimal set of superpartners as well as
On the implications of positive W mass shift
Abstract We investigate the phenomenological implications of the recent W mass measurement by the CDF collaboration, which exhibits tension with the standard model (SM) electroweak fit. Performing
What’s wrong with Science?
TLDR
The present study analyzes in detail the effects of the “publish or perish” policy, that turns out to have no significant effects in the developments of emerging scientific fields, while having detrimental impacts on the quality of the production of mature fields.
Features in the Standard Model diphoton background
We argue that electromagnetic decays of energetic unflavoured neutral mesons, notably $\eta$, mis-identified as single photons due to granularity of the electromagnetic calorimeter might create
Interpreting the 750 GeV digamma excess: a review
We summarise the main experimental, phenomenological and theoretical issues related to the 750 GeV digamma excess
Exotic Hadrons: Review and Perspectives
The physics of exotic hadrons is revisited and reviewed, with emphasis on flavour configurations which have not yet been investigated. The constituent quark model of multiquark states is discussed in
Rare decays of b hadrons
Rare decays of b hadrons provide a powerful way of identifying contributions from physics beyond the Standard Model, in particular from new hypothetical particles too heavy to be produced at
