This paper presents a synergistic system which combines Adaptive Resonance Theory (ART2) and the Kohonen Self-Organising Map for control chart pattern recognition. There are 6 principal types of patterns which can be observed in the control charts used in Statistical process Control (SPC). They are Normal, Cyclic, Increasing Trend, Decreasing Trend, Upward Shift and Downward Shift [1][2][3]. All these patterns indicate abnormalities in the process that must be corrected, except Normal.
