The applications of power semiconductors in circuit-breaker (CB) technology can help achieve considerable improvement in its performance and possible new capabilities. In this paper, new trends in power electronics for the applications in CBs are presented. It also summarizes and reviews the appropriate hybrid mechanical-static CB topologies.
