A Survey of Chabot Systems through a Loebner Prize Competition

title={A Survey of Chabot Systems through a Loebner Prize Competition},
  author={Luka Bradesko and Dunja Mladenic},
Starting in 1966 with the introduction of the ELIZA chatbot, a great deal of effort has been devoted towards the goal of developing a chatbot system that would be able to pass the Turing Test. These efforts have resulted in the creation of a variety of technologies and have taken a variety of approaches. In this paper we compare and discuss the different technologies used in the chatbots which have won the Loebner Prize Competition, the first formal instantiation of the Turing Test. Although…

Tables from this paper

Rasa-ptbr-boilerplate : FLOSS project that enables brazilian portuguese chatbot development by non-experts

It has been shown that it is possible to strategically combine the architecture and dialogues with the use of CRISPDM process model in new contexts and conversational purposes so that non-specialists are able to develop a chatbot as a black box.

A survey on providing customer and public administration based services using AI: chatbot

The survey demonstrates that there exist an immense potential in the AI assisted chatbot system for providing customer services and providing better governance in public administration services.

Review on Chatbot Design Techniques in Speech Conversation Systems

A survey on chatbots which have made a significant impact in the previous years about their various development techniques from selected papers which are the witness of remarkable improvements of these chatbots.

The reasoning and learning Lab Chatbot: a solution to the conversational intelligence challenge

A thorough description of how a dialog system can be built and trained from mostly public-domain datasets using Deep Learning tools is provided, allowing to improve the ranking system that evaluates which candidate response should be returned to the user at each time step in the conversation.

KINO: an approach for rule-based chatbot development, monitoring and evaluation

KINO’s architecture is presented, along with challenges and proposed solutions described as a reference for the development of other chatbots, and issues that allow future maintenance and possible improvements of KINO are shown.

Design and Implementation of a Chatbot for Kurdish Language Speakers Using Chatfuel Platform

The design and implementation of a software agent for the Central Kurdish (Sorani) dialect is provided to help Kurdish speakers in using online conversations via texts to find answers instead of direct contact with human agents.

Do people want to message Chatbots?: developing and comparing the usability of a conversational vs. menu-based Chatbot in context of new hire onboarding

The results indicate that users preferred a menu-based over a conversational chatbot experience due to its greater ease of use, less likelihood for errors, convenience of graphical user interface elements, and suitability for scenarios where information needs to be provided rather than requested.

Conventional AI Chatting Robot

This company is building a Multilingual Chatbot as it engages users in their native language and boosts conversions.

Evaluating Quality of Chatbots and Intelligent Conversational Agents

A literature review of quality issues and attributes as they relate to the contemporary issue of chatbot development and implementation is presented, and a quality assessment method based on these attributes and the Analytic Hierarchy Process is proposed and examined.

Review of State-of-the-Art Design Techniques for Chatbots

This paper begins with an introduction of chatbots, followed by in-depth discussion on various classical or rule-based and neural-network-based approaches, and a table consisting of recent research done in the field of conversational agents.

How to Pass the Turing Test by Cheating

This paper will describe in detail how my computer programs work, and will make comparisons with similar computer programs such as ELIZA, and explain why the Loebner contest is doomed to failure.

CYC: a large-scale investment in knowledge infrastructure

The fundamental assumptions of doing such a large-scale project are examined, the technical lessons learned by the developers are reviewed, and the range of applications that are or soon will be enabled by the technology is surveyed.

EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES Bots as Language Learning Tools

Foreign Language Learning (FLL) students commonly have few opportunities to use their target language. Teachers in FLL situations do their best to create opportunities during classes through pair or

CONVERSE: a Conversational Companion

Empirical and theoretical investigations of the nature and structure of human dialogue have been a topic of research in artificial intelligence and the more human areas of linguistics for decades:

Techniques of Dialogue Simulation

It is claimed that it is more effective to simulate intelligence than it is to recreate it and to use the mind-set of the user to the advantage of the conversation, and to provoke the user into showing typical behavior.
