The Annals of Joseon Dynasity record a significant damage of tsunami in the east coast of Gangwon Province on August 29, 1741. The tsunami occurred near Oshima-Oshima island off the southwestern coast of Hokkaido, Japan, and this study conducted simulations of a ray-tracing model to analyze the effects of the tsunami on the East coast of Korean Peninsula at that time. Model results were calculated using four different depth dataset (ETOPO2m, ETOPO1m, SKKU1m, and GEBCO15c), and results using the…

Volcanic origin of the 1741 Oshima-Oshima tsunami in the Japan Sea
The generation mechanism of the 1741 Oshima-Oshima tsunami, which is considered to be the most destructive tsunami that has ever originated in the Japan Sea, has been the subject of much debate. The
Effect of the Bottom Topography on Tsunami Propagation in the East (Japan) Sea
A study of tsunami events in the East (Japan) Sea using continuous Galerkin finite element model, aiming at reproducing tsunami waves generated by underwater earthquakes in 1983 and 1993 respectively
The 1741 Oshima‐Oshima Eruption: Extent and volume of submarine debris avalanche
Oshima‐Oshima is a small volcanic island southwest off Hokkaido in Japan Sea. The violent eruption on August 29, 1741 caused a sector collapse of the north flank. Very destructive tsunami with 2000
Effects of bathymetry on tsunami propagation: Application of ray tracing to tsunamis
Ray tracing of seismic surface waves is applied to tsunami propagation to examine bathymetric effect along its propagation path. Computations are made for trans-Pacific tsunamis and for near-field
Fault Slip Distribution of the 2016 Fukushima Earthquake Estimated from Tsunami Waveforms
The 2016 Fukushima normal-faulting earthquake (Mjma 7.4) occurred 40 km off the coast of Fukushima within the upper crust. The earthquake generated a moderate tsunami which was recorded by coastal
Digital Bathymetric and Topographic Data for Neighboring Seas of Korea
An attempt has been made to establish digital bathymetric and topographic database in the form ofgrid point value(GPV) with an interval of one-minute horizontal space for a wide region of seas
