We discuss and illustrate the properties of several parton-shower algorithms available in Pythia and Vincia, in the context of Higgs production via vector boson fusion (VBF). In particular, the distinctive colour topology of VBF processes allows to define observables sensitive to the coherent radiation pattern of additional jets. We study a set of such observables, using the Vincia sector-antenna shower as our main reference, and contrast it to Pythia's transverse-momentum-ordered DGLAP…

Machine-enhanced CP-asymmetries in the electroweak sector

The violation of charge conjugation (C) and parity (P) symmetries are a requirement for the observed dominance of matter over antimatter in the Universe. As an established effect of beyond the

PanScales parton showers for hadron collisions: formulation and fixed-order studies

: We formulate PanScales parton showers for hadron collisions so as to achieve next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy across a broad set of observables. We do so specifically for colour singlet

A critical appraisal of NLO+PS matching methods

A bstractIn this publication, uncertainties in and differences between the MC@NLO and POWHEG methods for matching next-to-leading order QCD calculations with parton showers are discussed.

Parton-shower effects in Higgs production via vector-boson fusion

We present a systematic investigation of parton-shower and matching uncertainties of perturbative origin for Higgs-boson production via vector-boson fusion. To this end we employ different generators

Efficient multi-jet merging with the Vincia sector shower

New parton distribution functions from a global analysis of quantum chromodynamics

Here, we present new parton distribution functions (PDFs) up to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) from the CTEQ-TEA global analysis of quantum chromodynamics. These differ from previous CT PDFs in

Vector-Boson scattering at the LHC: Unraveling the electroweak sector

Vector-boson scattering (VBS) processes probe the innermost structure of electroweak interactions in the Standard Model, and provide a unique sensitivity for new physics phenomena affecting the gauge

Next-to-Leading-Order Event Generators

We review the methods developed for combining the parton shower approximation to quantum chromodynamics with fixed-order perturbation theory so as to achieve next-to-leading-order (NLO) accuracy for

Parton-shower effects on Higgs boson production via vector-boson fusion in association with three jets

A bstractWe present an implementation of Higgs boson production via vector-boson fusion in association with three jets at hadron colliders in the POWHEG BOX, a framework for the matching of NLO-QCD

Interleaved parton showers and tuning prospects

General-purpose Monte Carlo event generators have become important tools in particle physics, allowing the simulation of exclusive hadronic final states. In this article we examine the Pythia 8

QCD coherence and the top quark asymmetry

A bstractCoherent QCD radiation in the hadroproduction of top quark pairs leads to a forward-backward asymmetry that grows more negative with increasing transverse momentum of the pair. This feature

Matching NLO QCD computations with Parton Shower simulations: the POWHEG method

The aim of this work is to describe in detail the POWHEG method, first suggested by one of the authors, for interfacing parton-shower generators with NLO QCD computations. We describe the method in
