IN the issue of Time for 3 July 1939, vol. 34, no. 1, p. 39, there was published a portrait alleged to be of the "Scientist Hooke." The portrait was credited to "Historical Pictures." Since I was under the impression that no portrait of HOOKE was known to be in existence, and since, furthermore, my own conception of HOOKE'S appearance, based upon various descriptions which I had formerly read, did not tally with the features exhibited by the individual represented in the portrait to be HOOKE, I… CONTINUE READING
