Hydrogenerator should be excited by the separate excitation,generally backup excitation device,when carrying on short-circuit characteristic test.If the generator set has no backup excitation,the test is usually unable to be carried on.This paper proposes a new method and analyses its technical points in detail.The implementation of the test shows that this method is practical and feasible.
