Sexual arousal is category-specific in men; heterosexual men are more aroused by female than by male sexual stimuli, whereas homosexual men show the opposite pattern. There is reason to believe that female sexual arousal is organized differently. We assessed genital and subjective sexual arousal to male and female sexual stimuli in women, men, and postoperative male-to-female transsexuals. In contrast to men, women showed little category specificity on either the genital or the subjective…

Implicit Sexual Associations in Heterosexual and Homosexual Women and Men
TLDR
The study shows difference in the pattern of sexual interest between genders at the earliest stages of the evaluation of a stimulus, via the use of implicit measures.
An exploration of genital arousal category-specificity and sexual concordance in men and women
TLDR
The results confirm the existence and stability of sex differences in arousal patterns, provide support for a functional explanation of the sex difference in genital category-specificity, provide mixed support for an informationprocessing model of sexual arousal in relation to sexual concordance, and provide no support for the notion that sexual concords are another manifestation of sex Differences in interoception.
Sex Differences in Patterns of Genital Sexual Arousal: Measurement Artifacts or True Phenomena?
TLDR
The results from the current study support the continued use of vaginal photoplethysmography in investigating sex differences in patterns of sexual arousal.
Sexual Orientation, Sexual Arousal, and Finger Length Ratios in Women
TLDR
Women’s sexual and behavioral traits, and potential anatomical traits, are possibly masculinized at different stages of gestation, possibly due to their sex-atypical masculinization during prenatal development.
Patterns of Genital Sexual Arousal in Transgender Men
TLDR
Transgender men’s sexual arousal showed both male-Typical and female-typical patterns, and they responded more strongly to their preferred gender than to the other gender, similar to (but not entirely like) 145 cisgender (nontransgender) men.
Gender-Specificity of Genital Response and Self-Reported Sexual Arousal in Women Endorsing Facets of Bisexuality
Gender-specific sexual arousal has been examined in women with sexual attractions toward predominantly women or men, but not in women reporting sexual attractions to both genders. In this study,
Gender and sexual orientation differences in sexual response to sexual activities versus gender of actors in sexual films.
TLDR
In this study, the hypothesis that women's sexual orientation and sexual responses in the laboratory correlate less highly than do men's because women respond primarily to the sexual activities performed by actors, whereas men respond primary to the gender of the actors is investigated.
Sexual arousal and masculinity-femininity of women.
TLDR
Though both studies confirmed that lesbians were more male-typical in their sexual arousal and nonsexual characteristics, on average, there were no indications that these 2 patterns were in any way connected.

Responses to Complex Erotic Stimuli in Homosexual and Heterosexual Males
TLDR
The homosexual group responded with significantly greater erections and subjective sexual arousal to the heterosexual and homosexual film than to the single girl or lesbian ones, while the heterosexuals rated the homosexual cues as unpleasant, whereas homosexuals rated the heterosexual cues as mildly pleasant.
Gender differences in erotic plasticity: the female sex drive as socially flexible and responsive.
TLDR
A large assortment of evidence supports 3 predictions based on the hypothesis of female erotic plasticity: individual women will exhibit more variation across time than men in sexual behavior, female sexuality will exhibit larger effects than male in response to most specific sociocultural variables, and sexual attitude-behavior consistency will be lower for women than men.
Effects of gender and sexual orientation on evolutionarily relevant aspects of human mating psychology.
TLDR
This research examined tests of several sex differences in mating psychology predicted from sexual selection theory, broad developmental hypotheses about sex differencesIn mating psychology--through the relationship of mating psychology to sexual orientation, and the structure of within-sex differences in mate psychology.
