A new karyotype, with 2n = 14 chromosomes, is described in Hydroclevs. This is very similar to the karyotype of Butomopsis latifolia, and when compared to that of H. nymphoides (2n = 16), reveals a Robertsonian relationship with the latter. Meiotic pairing is similar in both the 2n = 14 and the 2n = 16 cytotypes. The possible significance of small C-banded areas in H. nymphoides is discussed.
