Augmented Lagrangian preconditioners have successfully yielded Reynolds-robust preconditioners for the stationary incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, but only for specific discretizations. The discretizations for which these preconditioners have been designed possess error estimates which depend on the Reynolds number, with the discretization error deteriorating as the Reynolds number is increased. In this paper we present an augmented Lagrangian preconditioner for the Scott-Vogelius…
An augmented Lagrangian preconditioner for the magnetohydrodynamics equations at high Reynolds and coupling numbers
A scalable augmented Lagrangian preconditioner for a B - E formulation of the incompressible viscoresistive MHD equations that achieves robust performance with respect to the Reynolds and coupling numbers in two dimensions and good results in three dimensions is presented.
Preconditioners for computing multiple solutions in three-dimensional fluid topology optimization
This work develops a nested block preconditioning approach which reduces the linear systems to solving two symmetric positivedefinite matrices and an augmented momentum block, and presents multiple solutions in three-dimensional examples computed using the proposed iterative solver.
Monolithic multigrid for implicit Runge-Kutta discretizations of incompressible fluid flow
This paper extends the classical Vanka relaxation scheme to implicit RK discretizations of saddle point problems, and presents numerical results for the incompressible Stokes, Navier–Stokes, and resistive magnetohydrodynamics equations, confirming that these relaxation schemes lead to robust and scalable monolithic multigrid methods for a challenging range of incompressable fluid-flow models.
Robust multigrid techniques for augmented Lagrangian preconditioning of incompressible Stokes equations with extreme viscosity variations
To cope with the near-singularity of the (1,1)-block, a multigrid scheme with a discretization-dependent smoother and transfer operators from triangular/tetrahedral to the quadrilateral/hexahedral finite element discretizations is extended.
Low‐order preconditioning of the Stokes equations
This work shows that high‐quality preconditioners can also be derived for the Taylor–Hood discretization of the Stokes equations in much the same manner as well as verifying and compared against the measured multigrid performance.
Recycling augmented Lagrangian preconditioner in an incompressible fluid solver
The paper discusses a reuse of matrix factorization as a building block in the Augmented Lagrangian (AL) and modified AL preconditioners for nonsymmetric saddle point linear algebraic systems. The
Transformations for Piola-mapped elements
The novel transformation theory recently developed by Kirby is applied to devise the correct map for transforming the basis on a reference cell to a generic physical triangle, enabling the use of the Arnold–Winther elements in the widelyused Firedrake finite element software, composing with its advanced symbolic code generation and geometric multigrid functionality.

Robust Multigrid Preconditioning for Parameter-Dependent Problems I: The Stokes-Type Case

Multigrid methods for a parameter dependent problem in primal variables
It is proved that the smoothing property and the approximation property hold with constants that are independent of the small parameter, and robust and optimal convergence rates are obtained for the W-cycle and the variable V-cycle multigrid methods.
A robust multigrid method for discontinuous Galerkin discretizations of Stokes and linear elasticity equations
It is proved that variable V-cycle and W-cycle multigrid methods with nonnested bilinear forms are optimal and robust, i.e., their convergence rates are independent of the mesh size and also of the material parameters such as the Poisson ratio.

A pressure-robust discretization of Oseen's equation using stabilization in the vorticity equation
This work proves pressure-independent error estimates in the linearized case, known as Oseen's problem, and proves an $O(h^{k+\frac12})$ error estimate in the $L^2$-norm that is known to be the best that can be expected for this type of problem.
