The present work intends to clarify the phylogenetic relationships among the species of Paspalum L. belonging to the informal groups Notata/Linearia and Dilatata, and to raise some preliminary hypotheses on the phylogeny of the genus as a whole. A combined dataset including morphological and molecular characters was used to analyze 28 species of Paspalum plus some representatives of related genera of the tribe Paniceae. Analyses were performed using both parsimony and maximum likelihood. The… Expand
A phylogenetic analysis of the genus Paspalum (Poaceae) based on cpDNA and morphology
TLDR
The phylogenetic structure of Paspalum was explored using sequence data of four non-coding cpDNA fragments from a wide array of species which were combined with morphological data for a subset of diploid taxa, confirming the general monophyly of P. inaequivalve. Expand
Phylogenetic Relationships in the Genus Paspalum (Poaceae: Panicoideae: Paniceae): an Assessment of the Quadrifaria and Virgata Informal Groups
TLDR
A new appraisal of the classification of the Quadrifaria and Virgata groups of Paspalum is presented based on the phylogenetic analyses of DNA data from the chloroplast: the rpl16 intron, and the region comprising the trnL and trnF genes. Expand
Phylogeny of Linearia and Notata groups of Paspalum L. (Poaceae, Panicoideae, Paniceae) and related species
TLDR
This work uses a phylogenetic approach to study informal groups of Paspalum, using DNA sequences from ITS of nuclear rRNA, from chloroplast intergenic spacer psbA-trnH andchloroplast trnL intron to perform the analyses. Expand
enetic relationship among Paspalum species of the subgenus nachyris : Taxonomic and evolutionary implications
Paspalum is one of the most important genera of the Poaceae family due to its large number of species and diversity. The subgenus Anachyris comprises six species mainly from South America groupedExpand
Genetic relationship among Paspalum species of the subgenus Anachyris: Taxonomic and evolutionary implications
TLDR
The results confirm previous studies suggesting a monophyletic origin for the subgenus Anachyris and are concordant with previous data regarding genomic homologies and phylogenetic analyses in the genus. Expand
Phylogenetic analysis of the Briza Complex (Poaceae).
TLDR
A phylogenetic analysis of the Briza Complex was carried out using three DNA regions, and Briza sensu lato is not supported in most trees, and the American genera cannot be split due to unresolved polytomies. Expand
Phylogeny of New World Paspalum (Poaceae, Panicoideae, Paspaleae) based on plastid and nuclear markers
TLDR
Phylogenetic relationships among species of Paspalum were partially recovered possibly due to reticulation events among species, autopolyploidization and apomixis, thus obscuring the infrageneric classification. Expand
Genetic diversity of the complex Paspalum notatum Flügge (Paniceae: Panicoideae)
TLDR
Assessment of genetic variability of a bahiagrass collection in South America adds new information regarding the genetic diversity in P. notatum, contributing toward the biological knowledge of this species, and providing with subsides for future plant breeding and conservation programs. Expand
Morphology and anatomy of the diaspores and seedling of Paspalum (Poaceae, Poales).
TLDR
The morphology of the diaspore and the post-seminal development of Paspalum dilatatum Poir. Expand
Effects of the diploidisation process upon the 5S and 35S rDNA sequences in the allopolyploid species of the Dilatata group of Paspalum (Poaceae, Paniceae)
TLDR
Although sequences showed a directional homogeneisation towards the putative paternal progenitor in all tetraploid species, the observed differences in the number and loss of rDNA sites suggest independent ongoing diploidisation processes in all taxa and genome restructuring following polyploidy. Phylogenetic Relationships of the Decumbentes Group of Paspalum, Thrasya, and Thrasyopsis (Poaceae: Panicoideae: Paniceae)
TLDR
Paspalum (Poaceae: Panicoideae: Paniceae) includes 330 species distributed mainly in tropical and subtropical regions of America, and phylogenetic relationships among the informal group Decumbentes of Paspalu, plus subgenera and other informal groups, and the genera Thrasya and Thrasyopsis were estimated. Phylogenetics of paniceae (poaceae).
TLDR
Paniceae demonstrate unique variability of photosynthetic physiology and anatomy, including both non-Kranz and Kranz species and all subtypes of the latter, which suggests hypotheses of independent origin or reversals (e.g., from C(4) to C(3)), which can be tested by phylogenetic analysis of independent molecular characters. A molecular phylogeny of the grass subfamily Panicoideae (Poaceae) shows multiple origins of C4 photosynthesis.
TLDR
Based on this sample of species, it is inferred that C(4) photosynthesis has evolved independently several times, although a single origin with multiple reversals and several reacquisitions is only slightly less parsimonious. Expand
Molecular systematics, GISH and the origin of hybrid taxa in Nicotiana (Solanaceae).
TLDR
Relying solely upon ITS nrDNA analysis to reveal phylogenetic patterns in a complex genus such as Nicotiana is insufficient, and it is clear that conventional analysis of single data sets, such as ITS, is likely to be misleading in at least some respects about evolutionary history. Expand
