We present an alternative method for reconstructing a velocity-delay map in reverberation mapping (RM) based on the pixon algorithm initially proposed for image reconstruction by Pina. The pixon algorithm allows for a variable pixon basis to adjust resolution of each image pixel according to the information content in that pixel, which therefore enables the algorithm to make the best possible use of measured data. The final optimal pixon basis functions would be those that minimize the number… Expand

A speedy pixon image reconstruction algorithm
A speedy pixon algorithm for image reconstruction is described. Two applications of the method to simulated astronomical data sets are also reported. In one case, galaxy clusters are extracted fromExpand
Reverberation mapping by regularized linear inversion
Reverberation mapping of active galactic nucleus (AGN) emission-line regions requires the numerical deconvolution of two time series. We suggest the application of a new method, regularized linearExpand
PIXON-BASED MULTIRESOLUTION IMAGE RECONSTRUCTION FOR YOHKOH'S HARD X-RAY TELESCOPE
We present results from the application of pixon-based multiresolution image reconstruction to data from Yohkoh’s Hard X-ray Telescope. The goal of the pixon algorithm is to minimize the number ofExpand
Reverberation mapping of active galactic nuclei: The SOLA method for time-series inversion
We present a new method to find the transfer function (TF) of the broad-line region in active galactic nuclei. The subtractive optimally localized averages (SOLA) method is a modified version of theExpand
Bayesian image reconstruction - The pixon and optimal image modeling
TLDR
It is shown how an optimal basis for image representation can be selected and in doing so, the concept of the "pixon" which is a generalized image cell from which this basis is constructed is developed. Expand
Quasar tomography: unification of echo mapping and photoionization models
Reverberation mapping aims to use time-delayed variations in photoionized emission lines to map the geometry and kinematics of emission-line gas in the vicinity of an active galactic nucleus. ByExpand
Reverberation mapping of the emission line regions of Seyfert galaxies and quasars.
Variations in the strengths of the central photoionization source in a quasar or Seyfert galaxy will generate variations in the strengths and profiles of the emission lines. These ''reverberations''Expand
Skymapping with OSSE via the Mean Field Annealing Pixon Technique
We present progress toward using scanned OSSE observations for mapping and Sky Survey work. To this end, we have developed a technique for detecting pointlike sources of unknown number and location,Expand
A High-quality Velocity-delay Map of the Broad-line Region in NGC 5548
NGC 5548 has been well spectroscopically monitored for reverberation mapping of the central kinematics by 19 campaigns. Using the maximum entropy method in this Letter, we build up a high-qualityExpand
REVERBERATION MAPPING OF ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI
The broad emission lines in the spectra of active galactic nuclei respond to variations in the luminosity of the central continuum source with a delay due to light-travel time effetrs within theExpand
