A Physics-Based Approach to Modeling Grassland Fires

  title={A Physics-Based Approach to Modeling Grassland Fires},
  author={William E. Mell and Mary Ann Jenkins and Jim Gould and Phil Cheney},
The governing equations for low Mach number flow with combustion are based on those derived in Rehm & Baum (1978), where it is assumed that pressure changes due to the fire or buoyancy induced flow are a small fraction of the ambient pressure (i.e., the pressure in the absence of the fire). The resulting equations are commonly known as a low Mach number approximation. Explicit second order Runge–Kutta time stepping and second order spatial differencing on a rectilinear grid is used.
