Presented in this paper are the results of an investigation of the need for an improved Illinois pavement feedback system (IPFS) for the collection, storage, retrieval, and utilization of important pavement information. The study clearly showed that there is a critical need for improved procedures for feeding back pavement performance data and correlating it with design, traffic, and other information for the pavement management purposes of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
