A PAS reaction in erythrocytes of formalin-fixed tissue treated with Holt's hypertonic gum sucrose

When paraffin sections of mouse and rat kidney, liver and spleen were fixed in a formalin-type fixative overnight, then preserved in Holt's hypertonic gum-sucrose solution, erythrocytes stained strongly by the McManus periodic acid-Schiff method.
