This paper presents an alternative approach to pulse compression that is based upon iterative Minimum MeanSquare Error (MMSE) estimation. It is similar to the wellknown least squares (LS) approach but does not suffer from the adverse effects caused by scatterers closer than some nominal range. This results in a more robust estimate of the radar returns while maintaining nearly the same sidelobe level.
