A hidden gene concept is firstly introduced in this paper for the islanding detection. An embedded hidden gene filter which does not express itself in grid-connected situation will exhibit itself distinctly when the inverter is in islanding operation. The islanding can be detected by monitoring the behavior of this hidden gene.
