A new freshwater potamid crab species, Johora gua, is described from Pulau Tioman, an island off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It differs from most of its congeners by the relatively longer and slenderer ambulatory legs as well as various other characters in the carapace and male first pleopod. This is the fifth species of Johora Bott to be described from Pulau Tioman, and the first cavernicolous crab to be reported from Peninsular Malaysia.

ON A NEW SPECIES OF FRESHWATER CRAB OF THE GENUS JOHORA ( BRACHYURA , POTAMIDAE ) FROM PENINSULAR THAILAND

A new species of freshwater potamid crab of the genus Johora Bott, previously known only from Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, is described from southern Thailand and can be distinguished from congeners by its setose terminal segment of the male first pleopod.

Revision of the freshwater crabs of the Johora tahanensis (Bott, 1966) species group (Crustacea, Brachyura, Potamidae), with a key to the genus

Abstract The taxonomy of the potamid freshwater crabs of the Johora tahanensis (Bott, 1966) species group (Potamoidea) is revised. Seven species are recognised, all from Peninsular Malaysia and

A New Genus and New Species for an Unusual Semi-Terrestrial Potamid Crab (Decapoda: Brachyura) with a Bilobed Mandibular Palp from Peninsular Malaysia

A new genus and new species of semi-terrestrial crab is described from Peninsular Malaysia that possesses a 3-segmented mandibular palp having a bilobed terminal segment, a hitherto unknown condition.

Two New Cavernicolous Species of the Genus Sundathelphusa from Western Samar, Philippines (Decapoda: Brachyura: Parathelphusidae)

Two new troglobitic species of the freshwater crab genus Sundathelphusa, S. waray and S. lobo, are described from two caves in Samar, Philippines, bringing the number of cavernicolous species in the Philippines to nine and the presence of corneous spines on the distal two segments of the ambulatory legs is suggested as trogLomorphic adaptation to subterranean habitat.

Phylogeny and biogeography of the freshwater crab genus Johora (Crustacea: Brachyura: Potamidae) from the Malay Peninsula, and the origins of its insular fauna

Johora is shown to be monophyletic and composed of three clades that correspond with the topography of the Malay Peninsula and one of which evolved semiterrestrial habits, possibly in response to competition by the second.

Cave Biology: Life in Darkness

The new book, Cave Biology: Life in Darkness, Aldemaro Romero postulates about the evolutionary biology of subterranean organisms and other related topics, and considers that natural selection favors certain traits by fixing the alleles in hypogean populations based on the concept that troglomorphic phenomena result from phenotypic plasticity.
